Winter Warm Up: The Board of Directors invites you to join us on Sunday, November 16, following our New Member service with Pastor Lee, to enjoy a hot roast beef lunch including cabbage rolls, veggies, dessert and more! Kindly sign up in the Place of Welcome or let Judy know by November 9 if you’d like to join us. Voluntary donations will be gratefully accepted.
Donations for Winter Warm Up are encouraged via e-transfer. The donations need to be identified in the comments of the e-transfer for 'Winter Warm Up'. The value of the meal is $20 per person. Therefore, donations in excess of $20 per person, the amount in excess of $20, will be eligible for a tax receipt. There will be a basket available to accept loose cash at the meal. However, the Financial Secretary will need to know the details of any cash donation in excess of $20 in order to issue a tax receipt.
Feed the Hungry: Our Feed the Hungry program continues on the 3rd Friday afternoon of each month at the Chinook LRT Station. Donations of food (packaged cookies, drinks, granola bars, fruit) and clothing (blankets, socks, mittens, footwear, coats, sweaters, hats, scarves) are accepted throughout the month on Sunday mornings and during office hours on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are low on blankets at this time. A sign up sheet is located in the Place of Welcome for those who wish to volunteer to bring food and/or serve. Volunteers meet at the church by 3:30. Please contact Judy for details.
SWARM has a new fundraising opportunity: "Driving Support for Newcomers". We assist new folks to Canada with driving practice lessons and financially as they work toward a driver's license. Being able to drive safely and competently gives work and learning opportunities for a family, builds confidence and eases the settlement into a new culture. You can contribute to this initiative anytime. Cheques may be made to “SWARM” and sent to Southwest Area Refugee Mission, 8831 Fairmount Drive SE, Calgary, AB, T2H 0Z4. Donations may also be made via e-transfer: calgaryswarm@gmail.com Thank you, as always, for your support!
In Case of Emergency:: A wheelchair is stored in the main counters office if there is ever an emergency. LCOS has an AED and a First Aid Kit in the Fellowship Hall. Please speak to Judy if you have a current First Aid Certificate, or if you would be interested in taking the training. If we have enough interest arrangements may be made to coordinate a course for LCOS participants.
Noahvember: Each fall we remember the many animals in shelters waiting for their forever homes. To help make their lives, and the people who care for them, a little easier LCOS collects donations of pet food, toys, old towels, blankets, etc. and delivers them to the Calgary Humane Society at the end of the month. If this is something close to your heart a corral is set up in the Place of Welcome for donations.
Veterans Food Drive: Each year at this time LCOS accepts food and clothing for our local veterans in need. A collection box is available in the Place of Welcome for donations.
