Inspired by God's love for humanity, Canadian Lutheran World Relief challenges the causes and responds to the consequences of human suffering and poverty.

Canadian Lutheran World Relief works with it's parent organization Lutheran World Relief around the world.  Through out the year LCOS works with CLWR to support these various programs.

Emergency relief work includes:

  • Syrian Refugee response - camps and re-settlement
  • Nepal Earthquake Relief
  • Ethiopia is experiencing its worst drought in 50 years. Your support is needed now to prevent hunger It’s a humanitarian crisis few have heard about in North America, yet it has been classified at the highest level of humanitarian emergency, along with the war in Syria. No rain has put more than 10 million people at risk for starvation in Ethiopia, and an estimated 400,000 children are at risk of developing severe acute malnutrition, which can lead to stunting, and physical and mental delays in development. Canadian Lutheran World Relief is working with trusted aid agencies on the ground to provide Ethiopian families with food now. Your support also helps provide the supplies and infrastructure they need to produce food when the rains do come.                 Please donate today to provide food and livelihood supports for those affected by hunger: http://clwr.donorshops.com/product/F669712/ethiopiadroughtappeal.php

 Refugee Sponsorship:

As a member of the South West Conference of the Synod of Alberta of the ELCIC national church we have agreed to work with CLWR to sponsor 2 families of 4 members each to come to Calgary. Please see our Ongoing Volunteer page for updates as they become available.

 We Care Kits:

Since 1946 CLWR has made humanitarian relief shipments to those in need around the world. Through the dedication of churches, service groups, and individuals of all ages the We Care program continues to ship thousands of quilts, kits, and other much-needed supplies every year. These tremendous gifts provide basic necessities to those living in adverse conditions, like refugee camps, poverty-stressed regions, and in the wake of natural disasters. We invite you to explore the resources available, become informed and discover how you can make a difference.

Throughout 2016 we will be collecting and making various We Care kits for shipment.  For more details on helping with We Care kits please see our Ongoing Volunteer page.

Long-term community development programs work to improve the quality of life for those struggling against poverty. The aim of community development is sustainable poverty reduction.

Through its We Serve program (International Volunteer Service) CLWR facilitates a limited number of volunteer placements overseas for periods of six months to two years. Volunteer interests and abilities are matched with requests from partner organizations on a case-by-case basis.
